2026 California First Hunt Foundation Sporting Clays Shoot a Great Success

The 2026 California First Hunt Foundation Sporting Clays Shoot is officially in the books! Held on May 31 at Quail Point Hunt Club in Esparto, California, the event was another enjoyable day of shooting, fellowship, and supporting the mission of the First Hunt Foundation.

If you're ever looking for a place to host a sporting clays event, I can't recommend Quail Point Hunt Club enough. Their staff goes above and beyond to ensure every event runs smoothly, and their commitment to making each shoot a success is second to none.

While we didn't draw quite as many shooters as we had hoped, we had an excellent turnout that made the event both profitable and, more importantly, a lot of fun. Competitors represented every skill level imaginable—from nationally recognized sporting clays champions to first-time shooters. Regardless of experience, everyone came together with the same goal: supporting First Hunt Foundation while enjoying a great day on the course.

One of the highlights of the day was the camaraderie. Shooters encouraged one another, shared stories between stations, and welcomed newcomers into the sport. That sense of community is exactly what the First Hunt Foundation is all about.

Of course, there was still some friendly competition. Awards were presented for High Overall Male, High Overall Female, and High Overall Youth. In one of the day's most memorable moments, the High Female and High Youth champions turned out to be mother and son—both competing in their very first sporting clays shoot. Their success was a reminder that anyone can enjoy the sport with a little encouragement and a willingness to give it a try.

The raffle was another big hit, thanks to the generosity of our outstanding sponsors and donors. We'd like to extend our sincere thanks to Remington, Vortex Optics, Monticello Ranch, Dan Wesson Firearms, and Chris Berg, who donated the grand prize—a beautiful Charles Daly Trap Gun Combo shotgun.

The shotgun was awarded through a unique raffle. Participants who purchased the special $30 package received a commemorative event hat, and for every clay target they broke during the competition, they earned one additional entry into the shotgun drawing. It added an extra level of excitement throughout the day as shooters hoped every broken target would improve their chances.

After the competition, everyone gathered to enjoy an outstanding lunch provided by Quail Point Hunt Club. The menu featured delicious tri-tip, potato salad, chips, and cold drinks—a perfect way to wrap up a day on the course.

By the end of the afternoon, new friendships had been formed, old friendships had been strengthened, and everyone left looking forward to next year's event. Many participants promised to bring even more friends and family with them, which is exactly how we continue to grow the shooting sports and introduce new people to the outdoors.

A heartfelt thank you goes out to everyone who attended, volunteered, sponsored, and donated. Your support helps the First Hunt Foundation continue its mission of introducing new hunters and shooters to our outdoor traditions.

We look forward to seeing everyone back at Quail Point Hunt Club next year for an even bigger and better Sporting Clays Shoot!
